How to Add a Text or Logo Watermark to a PDF

Want to mark a document with "DRAFT", "CONFIDENTIAL", or your company logo before sharing it? Here's how to add a watermark to a PDF, with full control over its position and transparency.

A watermark is useful for marking document ownership or flagging a certain status (draft, sample, confidential) before a file is shared with others. This tool lets you add a text watermark or a logo image, with full control over its position, rotation, and transparency.

Steps to add a watermark

  1. Open tools.meaecosystem.com/watermark-pdf.
  2. Upload the PDF file you want to watermark.
  3. Choose the watermark type: text (say, "DRAFT" or "CONFIDENTIAL"), or upload your own image/logo.
  4. Set its position on the page, its rotation (say, diagonal), and the transparency level so it doesn't fully obscure the document's content.
  5. Click apply, review the result, then download the watermarked PDF.

What transparency level is right?

A watermark that's too opaque can hurt a document's readability, while one that's too transparent becomes hard to notice. A range of 15–30% transparency is usually enough to mark the document without sacrificing readability of the text underneath — adjust further depending on your document's background color.

Text watermark vs. logo watermark

A text watermark fits generic temporary statuses like "DRAFT" or "SAMPLE" better. A logo watermark fits better when the goal is marking ownership or branding, say, before a document is shared with a prospective client or published in limited form.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The entire process of reading and watermarking the PDF runs directly in your browser.

Can the watermark be removed later?

The added watermark becomes part of the PDF's content. Removing it requires re-editing the file, not a simple "undo".

Can I watermark every page at once?

Yes. The watermark is applied to every page in a PDF file automatically.
