How to Increase an Image's Resolution Without Pixelating (4x)

An old photo or small image you want printed large usually looks pixelated when just resized the ordinary way. Here's how to increase its resolution up to 4x using AI, so the detail stays intact.

Image Upscaler is different from an ordinary resize. A regular resize just stretches the existing pixels (resulting in blur), while this upscaler uses an AI model that intelligently "guesses" additional detail, so the enlarged image still looks sharp.

Steps to increase an image's resolution

  1. Open tools.meaecosystem.com/upscaler.
  2. Upload the image whose resolution you want to increase.
  3. Choose the image type: "General (Photo)" for ordinary photos, or "Anime / Illustration" if it's an illustration or anime-style artwork.
  4. Click "Upscale 4x" and wait for it to process — since it runs directly on your device, timing depends on your device's specs.
  5. Download the result as a PNG.

Why is there a "General" and "Anime/Illustration" option?

The AI models for upscaling regular photos and illustrations/anime are trained on different data, because the two have genuinely different characteristics — photos have natural texture and color gradation, while illustrations/anime usually have bold lines and flat colors. Picking the type that matches your image will give a more optimal result.

The result still has its limits

AI upscaling is much better than a plain resize, but it's not magic — detail that's genuinely lost in the original image (say, because the original resolution was very low or very blurry) can't be fully "restored" as if it were there from the start. The result is an intelligent guess based on patterns, not a perfect reconstruction of data that's actually missing.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. The AI upscaling model runs directly in your browser.

Why does it feel slow?

Because all the AI computation is done by your own device, not a server. It's a consequence of processing everything locally — but your image never leaves your device.

Is the result always perfect?

Not always. The best results usually come from source images that still have fairly clear detail, not ones that were already very blurry or pixelated to begin with.
